nokia n8 with nokia belle Nokia Belle download begins

The wait is over! Nokia startet to roll out Nokia Belle to the latest Symbian Nokia smartphones. Currently user of the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia E6, Nokia X7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia C7, or Nokia Oro can download Nokia Belle via the Nokia Suite. For Nokia 500, Nokia Belle will be made available within the next few weeks.

Nokia Belle delivers more personalisation options than before. You can have up to six home screens that are easy to personalize, leaving all your favourite applications and services only a few taps away. New larger live widgets display what’s really important to you right onto the homescreen, so you’ll always be kept up-to-date. Want to place a shortcut from one screen onto another? That’s simple. A long press and a drag to the side of the screen moves it to that screen.

Nokia Conversations put together a FAQ. If you have questions jump over.

    Hello
I just updated my Nokia N8 Anna to Bell, have few queries.
    1)    Can we add “show open applications” in the options menu of Belle because (if some application doesn’t have an close option or if any application hanged its mean you have to restart the phone anyhow else it will finish the battery)
    2)    Can add (activate power saving) option in the notification area like we had in Anna it will help us a lot because I can’t find in the Belle. J
    3)    Is there any way that I can rename some applications on my phone? Or when we can have this option in the phones?
    Please update!!

can i have it on my sony ericsson vivaz???

I agree about not being able to “show open applications” and then not being able to shut them down one by one. With Belle, everything is left open or running and not all of them can be closed even if you search the menu for each app that is open. I don’t much like it. The Symbian 3 icons were great, those with Anna OS would be fine. With Belle, it’s one step forward in some areas, three steps back in others.

True. It’s really inconvenient when “show open applications” was taken out. I wanted to revert to Anna but I’m not sure it’s possible and if it is I might have a higher risk to kill my phone. I like Belle’s UI than Anna though.

If you press and hold the function button a little while, all open applications will be displayed. I was expecting a tad bit more from this update, I can’t see any major advantages over Anna, though I like the pull down screen to acces activation of comm functions.

  • Arise

press and hold the functions button for a sec and the open applications will be displayed…

So far, Belle is an awesome development for Symbian. Much improved performance and aesthetics, yet I still feel like I have full control of the phone. All around I feel almost like I have a whole new handset. Awesome, and way cooler than the iPhone.

Bad changes to a few things I’ve noticed (for N8):

*Cannot activate power saving mode on my own anymore.
*Cannot tap the battery icon to get a Percentage displayed anymore – plus I generally have never liked the phone going from “full” to practically dead with no notice.
*Cannot figure out how to turn off “video preview” when downloading videos with the browser
*”add shortcut” or “add widget” is confusing, probably can be consolidated together. Also I miss having a small widget that provided me with missed calls/messages/email etc, and seem to have lost this.
*Whats up with the android clock? I love the large clock, but would like to be able to have a simple digital clock / date

*The update did fail once when attempting to import messages to the phone. Upon the automated re-boot and re-try, however, everything worked.

All around this is an exciting change that came sooner than expected (as opposed to the Anna release). Have fun playing with Windows Phone, but for god sake don’t ditch an OS that is already cool and more functional than most out there!
