Samsung i8910 Omnia HD: Initial Thoughts, Pictures & Video

The Samsung Omnia HD is Samsung’s first S60 5th Edition smartphone. It was launched at the MWC in Barcelona. At the CeBIT, I have had the chance to play with the Omnia HD but unfortunately I could not look at the interface. Anyway, the housing tells a lot though.

The front is dominated by an huge 3.7 inches OLED touchscreen which displays 360 x 640 pixels. Actually the touchscreen is bigger than the iPhone’s display. Below the touchscreen there are three keys. The green-answerkey, the red-endkey and the menu-key. Besides an secondary camera there is nothing else on the front.
On the left long edge there are just two volume keys to adjust the volume and to zoom in and out. The capture key, the micro-USB connector and the keylock-key can be found on the right long edge.

On the back you can 8 megapixel camera with autofocus as well as a LED-flash. Although this is a good feature there’s even a better feature. The Omnia HD is the first mobile phone to record videos in HD with 720p at 24fps. This is pretyt exciting and I’m looking forward testing this feature in due course.

The top has nothing but the speaker and the 3.5mm audio jack.
Comparing it with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic you can see that the Omnia HD has a bigger screen and is slightly thinner than the 5800. However, as you can tell the Omnia HD is wider and higher as well.
As the Omnia HD is built partly out of steal it is really nobly. More over it has silver details which look really cool. Escpeially compared to the 5800 the Omnia HD feels much better and nobly. All in all I’m looking forward testing the whole device soon.
Here a short video showing the i8910 Omnia HD as well as the 5800 Xpress Music:
