mail for exchange 300x274 Mail for Exchange version 2.9.158 available

Now Nokia’s Mail for Exchange has been updated to v.2.0.158. Allegedly it is available for almost all Nokia phones. However, the official homepage doesn’t show the installation file when choosing for example the 5800, E61i or the N82. Nonetheless I think version 2.9 will work on these phones in due course. So far it is only available for the Nokia E51, E63, E66, E71, N73 and N95 8GB. Head over to download MfE 2.9 and to get further information.

Changelog:

  • Access Point Groups/Destinations – Mail for Exchange can now actively switch between WiFi and GPRS connections automatically if your phone supports Destinations. This feature is only available on S60 3rd  Edition, Feature Pack 2 and S60 5th Edition phones.  To identify your device, visit this site: (See your phone User Guide for details about Destinations.)
  • Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, are disabled by default on new installs. This is to prevent users from inadvertently losing Calendar, Contacts and Task data.
  • When editing your Out of Office (OoO) message on the the device, Mail for Exchange retrieves the current OoO message from the server when the setting/tab is accessed and OoO is set to “Yes”, instead of periodically as in previous versions. This may cause a short delay and requires connectivity with the server.
  • Much better battery life in adverse network conditions. If the Mail for Exchange client can’t maintain a connection to the Exchange Server, it automatically switches to polling every 15 minutes. The client will switch back to Always on at the next scheduled period.
  • Mail for Exchange setting tabs are no longer dynamically displayed, instead all tabs are always displayed.
  • Manage your device by name instead of IMEI via Outlook Web Access (OWA) email client (if account allows). Users of OWA can perform device management features on their phone clients such as wiping the device. The phone model name is now visible in the status field. This is helpful for users who are synchronizing several phones.
  • Pictures in contacts are now synchronized.

I was able to install 2.9.158 (S60 3.2) on my N78, although it wouldn’t do an upgrade from 2.7, had to remove and reinstall.

I installed v2.9.158 sucessfully on my Nokia E71.
But when I send an email it always shows the sender name “Mail for Exchange” instead of my email adress. I didn’t have that problem using the older version of MfE.

Where can I change the sender name?

This update popped up in my 5800. It didn’t work. So now I don’t have any working mail :(

Whoa… this site is pretty awesome :) your layout is really well designed, and your blogs are (judging from what i’ve read) very interesting. heehee… consider yourself favorited. :-P

  • Trevor

Beware there is a problem with v2.9.158 if you are using with mailserver that is not Microsoft exchange. “Mail for Exchange” will appear as the sender name.

I wish nokia adds support for Sub-Folder sync in the M4E edition. I have already upgraded to the latest version mentioned in this blog and here are two important things still missing:

    1) If you compose a new e-mail or reply/fwd, Support for GAL (Global Address List) lookup with Company Directory is not an option if you click on “To:” field, instead you have to go on Options->”Company Directory” and search string for each name.

    2) Support for Sub-Folder Synchronization is still not available. Why are they projecting E71/63 phone as business series when they wont even allow user to read all his emails!!! It only synchronizes the Inbox but if user has created rules to move messages from a specific user into a subfolder….M4E wont see that message at all. This is amateur stuff…..all i can say. On the other hand this feature is available on E55 which has M4E integrated. They want E71 users to have a demo of the actual features only……and dont give them ANY option to have it…even if they are ready to shell out some money for it!

This feature to see subfolders is missing and I made a mistake of buying the phone. I will not buy any Nokia products again. They are so lame. No wonder windows mobile is rocking.

  • Nico

    Does V2.9 work with E75

  • Nick

Useless for me until it will work with SymVPN.

  • Elmo

Hi, when i tried to install it for Nokia xm5730, its giving error that the device is not compatible..any idea.?

  • Stephan

@Nick: M4E works perfectly with SymVPN.

@Rohit: Totally agree with you. It’s really a pity, and with the E75 Nokia there is a mail client which is capable of displaying HTML-mails and manage subfolders. I just read it’s also possible with the new E72.
I don’t think Nokia will change something on the E71, it is end-of-life…

    Hello,

Just installed my exchange 2010 server and tried to sync my E71, but not working.
I suppose that it is not supported yet. Hopefully very soon because a lot of customers of our will be having these problems when we will upgrade the exchange server.

Can someone tell us when a new version will be released?

    thx

  • Gerishon

How sad that is cannot be installed on the New Nokia E72!!!!!!!!

  • phiews

hi, is there a way to view email in html on N97? Thanks a bunch..

  • Joseph

Any chance you can turn off the “battery saving” option – we have techs that work in an area that has spotty wireless. However, we’d like to keep the phone automatically polling for a connection & email rather than defaulting to 15mins. We’re trying to avoid having to switch to an alternate phone.

  • Ale

Gerishon, I think E72 does natively support Active Sync protocol.
I think you don’t need MFE.

  • MArcelo España

Some one of you can publish M4E file 2.9 V. or send email to mespanak@hotmail.com. Link on this page doesn’t work and i need updagrade my M4E in Nokia 6210 Navigator to work with my Exchange 2007.

    Thank’s for any help :)

    Hi Guys,

Can any body help me in installing Mail for Exchange for Nokia E51. I tried downloading the file from OVI, however, upon installing it throws some error message….

  • Paul

I need help regarding the sub-folders from my exchange not being copied to the my phone. I am using the new E72. Is there a work around for this one? My sub-folders from my exchange account are more important that those that are in my inbox. I was able to sync my inbox and the PIMs perfectly except for the sub-folders. And they are not in the drop down for more folders field.

  • Jens

I need help with my Mail for Exchange on my E66. When I sync. i get all my sub folders in my inbox, and I would only like to get my new emails in the inbox and not adding all my sub. folders. If this is not possible, can i get the new emails in top of my inbox on my E66 instead of in the buttom?

can someone give me an example of a domain name and server name. Thanks

  • Sid

While setting up your account, MFE doesn’t retrieve the domain and server name automatically. If your IT department can’t help you out, you would get stuck…

So what I did was I downloaded trial version of Roadsync from OVI store, which automatically detects all the settings. I then copied the domain and server name from roadsync and used it for MFE. Hope this helps.
