SmartTouch: Control your PC using your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Let me introduce you SmartTouch, a new application for S60 5th Edition which allows you to control your PC via bluetooth. All you need is a 5800 XpressMusic and bluetooth enabled computer. The software you need is absolutely freeware.
SmartTouch v 0.45 ( 5800 or N97-client)
Python 1.9.7
SmartTouch v.0.4 (PC-client)
First of you need to install Phython 1.9.5 on your phone memory. Than install the Smarttouch_0.4.1.sis on your phone memory as well. Once you done that, enable Bluetooth on both your devices, run the server (SmartTouch.exe) on your computer and the SmartTouch software on your 5800. Now, on your 5800, click on ”Search device” and select your computer from the discovered devices.That’s all.
The application is really easy to use. Basically you have three options only.
- The media-controls, which can be managed by any player on your computer. The available buttons are: “play / pause”, “next”, “prev”, “mute” and volume buttons.
- The keys, Up, Down,Left, Right, Esc and Enter can be used to control many applications on PC including games.
- The phone can be used as a mouse by using the touchscreen
Everything works fine bedside of the ”touchpad”. Selecting files is quite hard. Maybe it will be improved in further versions. Anyhow, I just can recommend trying this application. On my Vista Laptop and my 5800 everything worked fine. Please share your thoughts about this application.

Guys This does work and its actually very impressive. I rate if the mouse input was tweaked and they added on screen keyboard itd be a total replacement for even using a keyboard.
Any who:
–> Instal python
–> Instal Smart Touch
–> Run Smart touch server on your PC (itl appear in the system tray btw, not a popup program…)
–>Turn on Bluetooth of Phone and PC
–> RESTART PHONE!!!!! This is what people seem to have been missing, it wont work unless you do this vital step!
–> Run on phone and hey presto!

this didnt work for me for ages, then i had an idea. my bluetooth adapter (nexus) uses toshiba drivers and this is what turned out to be the problem. i put my bluetooth adapter into a fresh USB slot (that is one which it had never previously been in before), and when win xp detected it, i allowed xp to install standard bluetooth drivers… and bingo it worked! hope this helps someone else!

i’ve installed everything… but the smart touch need 2 be updated? i open smart touch den its like nothing. i press exit n it says ‘update is mandatory for installing python runtime and its dependecies. rerun the application for automatic update’…
where can i get the smart touch server??
It´s not working. When I run the program at 5800, it stoppes and show the followed error:
typeError: invalid screen mode: must be one of normal, large, fulll

Hi,
I managed to install and run the application on the PC. When it comes to the phone; it would not and guess what; I get an error message saying that the python application is trying to get the list of the latest dialed numbers. Is this some sort of trojan horse trying to get information from my phone?
Only for windows
I need this kind of app for linux… Is there any?

I have spent hours and hours attempting to get this to work, searching for information on google. It still refuses to work. Screen mode python error.
I too had the same error as relu.the following log was produced immediately after the smarttouch.exe is activated in the computer.

yeah its true….its not working with bluesoleil…then i’ve just uninstalled bluesoleil and then after conneected through vista’s own drivers..its working fine now….

Guys.. please follow this procedure…
Install “Python Runtime” as it bundled in “Python_1.9.4.sis” file in the phone memory which installs all the needed files, like PIPS Installer, Symbian OS PIPS Upgrade, Signal Server, Symbian OS Pipes Upgrade and finally Python Runtime which is the beta version. If you got the 1st istallation like this one, you’re in the correct route. Restart the phone. Then you can install “PythonScriptShell_1.9.4_5thEd.sis” file. Again install it in the phone memory. Notice the installation went well as it DOES NOT SHOW “install without python runtime?”. This again shows you are in the correct route. If it shows, do it all over again. Finish the installation and restart the phone again. Finally, run the newer version of Smart Touch for python_1.9.4 version “smarttouch_v0_4_1.sis” . Restart the phone, try the smookin’ new app and it will all go well. Cheers. And please do notice that you can’t run smartTouch if the python runtime version and the scriptshell version is not the same or in a word, not compatible to each other. You can download all these files at google “garage: python for s60″ or via maemogarage.com then search for “python for s60″. I reccomend Python 1.9.4

Hi, I’m using the latest version of SmartTouch. Everything work fine except the “play/pause” and “next/prev track” buttons. I use Windows 7, and wireless keyboard set. Please help! THanks.

It didn’t work with my toshiba’s built-in bluetooth device. But it worked with an external one. The app is not really that good any ways.
the installing was going well but i can’t use any function…
I can change between the several things, like mouse ore media player but I can’t use it! I always push but nothing happens…

Hi, just one problem, it works great, but the mouse pad option, it registers one click when I lift my finger when trying to move the mouse pointer…. so it is a little anoying, any help with that?… some trouble getting the doble clicks to work, maybe just windows doble click delay time? Thanks.
Try Salling clicker .. much easier to use .. connects over WiFi too ..
great app! the media buttons respond faster than the ones built into my laptop! it’s kinda weird that the mouse and keypad tabs are used sideways it would be nice for them to work in portrait mode, maybe in the next version?

Works fine with winamp and AIMP, but i cant get it to work with my VLC player V.1.0.0.
It seems like i have to open a http port. Anyone who can help ?
When I downloaded the PC-client my Virus-Scanner detected it as Virus/Maleware and told me not to execute the file? >:( HOW COME?

Use the REAL tool for this kind of task.
Have a look at SymRDP from http://www.telexy.com and you will forget about SmartTouch momentarily.
