the thing is not working in my phone

Hi,
I followed the instructions in the order stated above, but when I run the click the Smarttouch icon on the phone, I get the following error message:
Check if the following components are installed.
->Python Runtime
->PIPS library
When I check the Settings application under Application mgr./Installed apps, Python runtime and Smarttouch are listed, but not this PIPS library. Am I missing something please? Failed to work so far…

Try to install Phython without PIPS on your phone memory. Now it should work. Please sent me feedback whether it works or not:

Well, so the 5800 and the Computer are connected right? And why doens’t it work? If it is connected it should work. Have you opened the exe on your computer?

Restart the phone and try to start smarttouch. It will solve the problem.

SOLUTION :
1. unistall the app
2. install python(no need to reinstall this)
3. install the app again.

Should the file of Python 1.9.3 be python_193_5thed_without_pips.sis?

THIS ACTUALLY WORKS!!!! great job, I got it working right away!
Everything is perfect except mouse double click on touch screen. (but opening a desktop document with with 5800 works by selecting first the document with mouse and then hitting enter button. I tested with powerpoint slides, movie and music player and all features so far seem to be working. especially usefully when controling powerpoint slide show, adjusting volume, and playing mp3 with music player.

My exact STEPS to get it working were following:
first copied all three required file in 5800. installed the “python_193_5thed_without_pips” (in memorycard) and then tried install the “python_193_5thed_without_pips1″, but it says allready installed, do you want to replace? I chose replace but this time I chose phone memory instead of memorycard. Now I rebooted phone just in case. installed “SmartTouch_0.4″, rebooted phone again just in case. enabled bluetooth connection and allowed phone to connect to my laptop (brand HP). after this I run SmartTouch.exe on laptop then open SmartTouch from 5800 and choose “search device” and choose my laptop. Voila! everyting is working now!!!

It worked great for me!!! I also had the above mentioned problem and solved it following PyMan’s instructions:

Amazing app – I really liked the mouse app, although I had an app on my old N73, which allowed me to view my PC screen on the phone, see which song is playing on winAmp, but I guess this will come later on the touch s60. Anyways this app is great and it works really fast. If you have a 5800 you must give it a try.

Does anybody know how to get both SmartTouch and XpressAlarm (both by Igor aka kAIST) work at the same time. I can get both working separately but I can keep only one app installed at once since XpressAlarm needs newer version of Python that I’m unable to use with SmartThouch (which seem to be working only with this Python 1.9.3 version.)

Is there some other verson of Python (1.9.4 or higher) that somebody is able to use with SmartTouch. Please help??

Works with Python 1.9.4 and higher.. (I use Python 1.9.5 beta)

This solved my problem to get XpressAlarm to work at the same time that I asked in previous comment.

If you have that probem “Check ..componets.. –>Python runtime, –>PIPS Libary”
Try the new version of smarttouch after you have installed Python 1.9.4 or higher

(I even got the double mouse click working so everything is perfect now!!)

the app is working.however i cannot control the volume and mouse properly.when i want to increase or decrease it a little, it increases or decreases to the maximum!!!also wen cursor stops onan icon it automatically clicks it. seems that the cursor is always clicking..any1got this prob??tried un installin and re installing, prob remains.

The app works! And it’s great. But the install process is troublesome!
Here are the steps that worked for me (on Nokia 5800 XM):

1. Download PythonForS60_1.9.5.tar.gz from https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_id=854
2. Extract PythonForS60/PyS60Dependecies/Python_1.9.5.sis and PythonForS60/PyS60Dependecies/PythonScriptShell_1.9.5_high_capas.sis. The latter can bve downloaded for the Python download link on the current page
3. Install them to your 5800′s phone memory – not the memory card, the phone memory (the order of installation doesent matter)
4. Download and install the SmartTouch v 0.4.1 from the current page

No matter what I try, different versions etc, when I open the software on my phone it comes up with an error message about screen size is max_full and must be one of normal, large etc.

After I tried exactly what 40th floor says, the app doesn’t show “python runtime missing” when installing. But it still shows “update is mandatory for python runtime & its dependents. Rerun the application for automatic updates.”, and the app fails to open. Can anyone help!

This will only work if your Nokia 5800 is updated with the latest version.

Hey Petar Vasilev, I think you should hard format/reset your Nokia 5800 and then start with installing all the applications and things correctly plus you have to format your memory card well you don’t have too. but that’s what i did with mine and also it works very good.

Try not have your Nokia PC suite connected VIA Bluetooth while launching Smarttouch and connecting your fone through bluetooth cause it just makes traffic. well something like that, if you get a error saying No no serial ports found then that means you didn’t open the exe file on your pc.

if you get anyother error msg’s uninstall the smarttouch then install it back again then restart ur fone.

if not works. uninstall all python including Smarttouch then install python given above then install smarttouch then restart fone then make sure u turn ur BT on. and also you have the Smarttouch PC exe file open, and then connect it. should work! if not then remove paired blutooth from ur pc and from ur fones BT paired devices and then try it again by new connection.

hope that works! cause i been through those aswel haha.

Guys This does work and its actually very impressive. I rate if the mouse input was tweaked and they added on screen keyboard itd be a total replacement for even using a keyboard.

Any who:

–> Instal python

–> Instal Smart Touch

–> Run Smart touch server on your PC (itl appear in the system tray btw, not a popup program…)

–>Turn on Bluetooth of Phone and PC

–> RESTART PHONE!!!!! This is what people seem to have been missing, it wont work unless you do this vital step!

–> Run on phone and hey presto!

this didnt work for me for ages, then i had an idea. my bluetooth adapter (nexus) uses toshiba drivers and this is what turned out to be the problem. i put my bluetooth adapter into a fresh USB slot (that is one which it had never previously been in before), and when win xp detected it, i allowed xp to install standard bluetooth drivers… and bingo it worked! hope this helps someone else!

I managed to install and run the application on the PC. When it comes to the phone; it would not and guess what; I get an error message saying that the python application is trying to get the list of the latest dialed numbers. Is this some sort of trojan horse trying to get information from my phone?

Only for windows I need this kind of app for linux… Is there any?

I have spent hours and hours attempting to get this to work, searching for information on google. It still refuses to work. Screen mode python error.

Guys.. please follow this procedure…

Install “Python Runtime” as it bundled in “Python_1.9.4.sis” file in the phone memory which installs all the needed files, like PIPS Installer, Symbian OS PIPS Upgrade, Signal Server, Symbian OS Pipes Upgrade and finally Python Runtime which is the beta version. If you got the 1st istallation like this one, you’re in the correct route. Restart the phone. Then you can install “PythonScriptShell_1.9.4_5thEd.sis” file. Again install it in the phone memory. Notice the installation went well as it DOES NOT SHOW “install without python runtime?”. This again shows you are in the correct route. If it shows, do it all over again. Finish the installation and restart the phone again. Finally, run the newer version of Smart Touch for python_1.9.4 version “smarttouch_v0_4_1.sis” . Restart the phone, try the smookin’ new app and it will all go well. Cheers. And please do notice that you can’t run smartTouch if the python runtime version and the scriptshell version is not the same or in a word, not compatible to each other. You can download all these files at google “garage: python for s60″ or via maemogarage.com then search for “python for s60″. I reccomend Python 1.9.4

It didn’t work with my toshiba’s built-in bluetooth device. But it worked with an external one. The app is not really that good any ways.

Hi, just one problem, it works great, but the mouse pad option, it registers one click when I lift my finger when trying to move the mouse pointer…. so it is a little anoying, any help with that?… some trouble getting the doble clicks to work, maybe just windows doble click delay time? Thanks.

Try Salling clicker .. much easier to use .. connects over WiFi too ..

great app! the media buttons respond faster than the ones built into my laptop! it’s kinda weird that the mouse and keypad tabs are used sideways it would be nice for them to work in portrait mode, maybe in the next version?

I used the pc remote last week. Its really good exept the touch pad for cursor control. I suggest using it with the stylus it is more responsive that way.

I think it need in the mouse mode 2 button, and a scrollbar, and it will be very super. But now i cant use becose its click everywhere -.-

Ive been using Vectir http://www.vectir.com which has worked without problems. Its much easier to install cos you dont need python. Many of you are having probs with the mouse mode on smartTouch but the mouse mode on Vectir works a treat for me. The best bit is that you can use it over wifi aswell as bluetooth (my computer doesnt have bluetooth) so you can control your computer from further distances and with higher data transfer rates.

hi!

i like this app very much, but i still miss a few basic features:
– backspace button to make folder navigation easyer
– maybe it´s possible to include a button which is able to open the win7 3d-window-flip option
– and last but not least (actualy it’s the most important item for me): if i drag the curser and release it, smart touch makes a automatic click. if i just want to drag the mouse over the screen this feature changes the window, chooses or opens files, opens menus and so on…
i would be happy, if the ideas would be implemeted and the problems would be solved in a new version…

Installed it on python version 2, and it works perfectly.

What’s the use of this software it you have to be present in front of your PC all the time… then better use your hands that god gave you.. after seeing the video what I understood is that the program won’t show you the desktop of your PC which is not the case with some other freeware programs of same kind available in the net…

Now it works on my 5230. I had to edit “default.py” to change

app.screen=’full_max’

into

app.screen=’full’

since Python 2.0.0 doesn’t like ‘full_max’.

Anyway, I have the “soft cursor pad” displayed on the bottom of the screen, so I can’t switch mode.

How can I disable such virtual keyboard?
Have I to change python code somewhere or is there a phone setting to switch it off?
