The truth is that they recognize LG, Apple, and Basic phones. Windows Mobile, Symbian, Palm, and Android is not so prominent in America as they are in europe. I do enjoy seeing Nokia's in a lot of music videos, but I think it's only as good as easter eggs for Nokia freaks.
