The Nokia E71, E66 & E63 Receive New Firmware v400.21.013

The Nokia E71, E66 and E63 have all received a new firmware update taking them to V400.21.013. Neither devices support FOTA (Firmware-over-the-air) therefore to get this new firmware you will need to plug yourself into a PC and use either NSU (Nokia Software Updater) or the Ovi Suite. Remember neither handset supports UDP (User Data Preservation) either so make sure you do a full backup before updating your device. Provisional changelog after the jump.

The changelog has not yet been officially released but heres a quick overview of the new update:

  • Support for Russian and Ukranian keymats
  • Phone activation Baseline updated
  • Yahoo account hack fixed

General:

  • Stability and functionality improvements
  • Email and WLAN functionality improvements
  • Increased robustness in handling SMS and incoming calls
  • Memory leak fixes and crashes
  • Email and WLAN functionality improvements

Call Handling:

  • Fix for Incoming call hang issue and fast call crash
  • Fix for making emergency call when the phone is locked

Calender and Clock:

  • Minor Functionality improvements
  • Time display correction when the phone is locked

Connectivity:

  • WLAN functionality Improvements and fixes for crashes
  • Improvement in WLAN authentication
  • mVPN authentication improvements and general functionality improvement

Contacts and Phonebook:

  • Functionality improvements for search functionality

Email:

  • Email setup wizard updated
  • Fix for Yahoo account hack while setting up Gmail account through Nokia Email
  • Fix for mails getting duplicated after restoring backup
  • Mail for Exchange upgraded from 2.9.158 to 2.9.176
  • Many functionality and stability improvements in MfE
  • Robustness and functionality improvements in email items

Internet Radio:

  • Improved functionality
  • Increased application stability

Qwerty Keyboard (E71 Only):

  • Usability improvements
  • Keyboard mapping corrections for Russian and Ukranian keymat

Messaging:

  • Improvement in Turkish SMS characters input
  • Fix for delivery report for SMS with more than 22 characters
  • Increased robustness in handling SMS

    What I have noticed is that there is no longer a lag in opening applications, and the overall speed of the UI has increased. I’ve been using it as my secondary device for the past week so haven’t really had a chance to test out all the features. Anyone else care to share their experiences?

    I am waiting someone who tested it (e66) and then I’ll update !

    Can’t wait!! installed it and I noticed that:
    1) flip screen is faster, no lag
    2) increase speed on application booting: for example fring is considerably faster!
    3) fast connection on WLAN but it can be only an impression becouse I used it once before updating
    4) fixed problem on displaying date&time when phone is locked

    Benefits all around…indeed!!!

    With 300.XX was good, now it is PERFECT!!!

    Well just updated 3 days ago and seems ok phone is indeed faster. Not sure if it is due to better signal stength at current location but battery life has somewhat improved. Will check further on that …… Besides that the fonts have also changed. Will update further on battery issue once I return to normal location ;-)

    Well looks like the phone is able to work on a full charge for at least 3 days with aveage to high use which includes being connected with Bluetooth head set for at least 2 hours a day and Wifi connection daily to update e-mail and other stuff, say an average 1.5 Hrs per day. Other than that using the phone for the usual calls and SMS.
    Great now it makes it the perfect phone (Nokia E66). Will keep testing further for the next few days to ensure I have accurate results.

    HI all I am from India I installed Nokia Software Updater and tried to update but for my phone E71 the current and the updated firmware version is 300.xx..Please help as I am experiencing many problems,If possible please suggest any other place where i can get new firmware

    Great improvement. It is much faster. More stable. I really recommend this update.

    After updating to latest firmware, the keypad response has been very slow both in phone book and keying phone numbers. The keypad has a delay effect.

    I’ve been using E66 for many years and I just got my 3rd E66 last week.

    Anyone has the same problem.
