Samsung’s cheap N95 imitation
Posted by Norman John in Hands On, News, S60, S60 UI, Samsung, Symbian
The Samsung i450 is no news to anyone, but the actual review is a news for me. What impressed me the most is that the slide doesn’t work very well, atleast according to the guys at GSMArena, who reviewed the phone. The reason this is impressive is because the N95 is a dual slide device as well, and the slide also operates poorly, so I’m guessing this happens in dual slide phones.
The phone only has a 2 megapixel for those who aren’t aware of the specs, there is a 3.5mm jack, no GPS, and the phone is powered by Symbian OS9.2 with the S60 v3.1 UI. The Samsung has HSDPA.
Below are the main advantages and disadvantages of the i450:
Key features:
- Symbian OS 9.2, Series 60 v3.1 UI
- Dual slide design with unique Touch wheel key
- 2.4″ 256K color TFT LCD display with QVGA resolution
- 3G with HSDPA
- 3.5mm standard stereo audio jack
- microSD memory card slot reportedly accepting high-capacity cards
- FM radio with RDS
- Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP
Main Disadvantages:
- No WLAN
- Average display quality
- Mediocre camera
- No camera lens cover
- 3.5mm jack cannot be used for plugging a hands-free set

it’s still a long way for Samsung to reach the N82 or N95, in my opinion

i agree, they take too long to release phones
You should think about your style of writing. Calling this phone “cheap imitation” just because of the opinion of one site, is indeed a fastidious thing.
Samsung produces also very good phones. The building quality is much better than Nokia’s and the G800 is the first phone with a 5 MP camera and optical zoom.
BTW the slider problems of most N95s have been solved.
Hey there Bery, thanks for commenting. Well I do apologize any Samsung user or anyone else that I thought that I’m not being fair and rather “insultuous”, but I just think Samsung was a bit nasty on following N95s style, I may be wrong, and perhaps there is nothing wrong in copying form factors.
N95 sliders to me are still crap, I really don’t see how they have been solved.
I do agree with the you saying that Samsung’s build quality is good.
Please keep the comments coming, I really appreciate having great bloggers sharing their opinions.
Even if it is similar, is not at all ugly…..it is the much less beautiful one of the N95

Dual sile is fashion, we all know that, Dual slide mechanism is hard to control, it’s something we don’t know. It is either too hard to realese the phone or totally hurt the compact of the construction, So let’s don’t demand too much of a budget phone. And referring to imitation, nearly all mobile phones are imitating the iPhone, if we could say imitaion is the best flattery, then no doubt apple iPhone is the final winner, ah?
