Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Will Sony Ericsson and Samsung consider Symbian OS again?

Is Android the answer to all?
Samsung and Sony Ericsson are one the biggest mobile companies in the world and having Symbian platform on their devices like Samsung i8910 Omnia HD and i8510 Innov8, SE Satio and Vivaz were also a great push to their smartphone section. But what we didn’t expect was the slowdown of the development of new Symbian OS especially on the UI which gives opportunity for Apple iOS and Google Android to take many steps forward against its competitors. This was also the cause of how Nokia’s smartphone section toppled from the peak of its market momentum. But another sad part were especially when Samsung  & Sony Ericsson embraced Android OS to help them answer their struggling smartphone section.

Nokia N8 plus S^3 is equal to success—possible.
As we’ve seen today, the upcoming Symbian^3 is heading these coming months and Nokia is confident that their Nokia N8 will again change the direction of their ship towards success. They’re putting all compelling features, and of course, they are promising a smartphone device that would deliver great solutions by offering it to the mass. What could be the essence of this is that it will somehow wake up SE and Samsung and make them realize that Symbian platform is still the game changer.

Yet, if Symbian^3 is too late for SE and Samsung, and if ever Symbian^3 and Nokia N8 will be a big success, then Symbian^4 is always possible for them to consider. While Samsung and SE are hangvi their Android remedy, the thing is Symbian is still a great threat to all. What do you think?

    Samsung uses nearly every smartphone OS they can find: Android, Windows Mobile, Symbiantheir own Bada etc. You can find rumors about a Samsung Cetus SGH-i917 with Windows Phone 7 and IMHO it won’t be a big surprise if they announce a new phone with S^3 or S^4 in the near future.

    The losers are the customers. It is impossible for Samsung to give sufficient support with this wide rage of OS.

    With SE it’s nearly the same.

    Charlie hit it square on the head. Samsung lacks a service suite, so will look to differentiate by unifying the UI as much as possible across its brand and all OSes.

    They will likely use Symbian again, mainly because it is the only game in town for low powered, low spec devices. Samsung will need something to bridge its featurephone users over into smartphones, and it can’t be done by having consumers using $50-75 featurephones transition to $250-350 Android devices. Android sucks on devices in the $100-200 range, but Symbian sings. Even moreso now that the graphics architecture for touch has been streamlined for performance and efficiency of the application processor.

    SE is in pretty much the same boat. But its affiliation with Sony and the Playstation brand willl likey make Qt a nice proposition for them. They’ll need reach, and haven’t achieved it with Android on the low end, so Symbian is the only choice they have.

    Every OS outside of Symbian is mostly high end, especially WP7. So its almost a guarantee that any manufacturer with a large usership of featurephones will want a low cost efficient platform as a transition point to bridge into smartphones.

    @Charlie and Chris

    Definitely the Symbian^3 will play as a bridge for high-end and low-end smartphones, but on the Symbian^4 it will be different I think. Even Nokia, consider Symbian^4 on their Nseries devices and a possible to N8 successor.
