How to: Speed up your S60 device!

highspeed How to: Speed up your S60 device!

I think all of you S60-users out there know that devices with this Symbian S60 OS can be very slowly. Sometimes you need to wait many seconds until an application or a folder opens. This can be very annoying, especially in the gallery when you want to show some pictures or videos to your friends very quickly.

Now there is a trick to make your S60 mobile phone faster, this trick is so crazy that you won’t believe it until you tested it. But don’t think I am joking, just test it by yourself. So let’s start with the tutorial:

1.) Change your phones’ date to the 01.05.2005

2.) Go to the calendar

3.) Now we need to create two new  to-do’s (Options > New entry > To-do)

4.) These two to-do’s need to have the following information:

- 1. To-do:

  • Subject: Speed
  • Due date: 04.08.2005
  • Priority: High

- 2. To-do:

  • Subject: Qoukie
  • Due date: 04.08.2005
  • Priority: Low

5.) Confirm the both to-do notes with “Done”, but don’t close the calendar application.

6.) Choose: Options > To-do view

7.) Mark “Speed” as done, after that mark “Qoukie” as done.

8.) Now you can close the calendar.

9.) Change the phones’ date back to the actual day.

10.) Enjoy your faster device!

This tutorial is unbelivable, huh? But it really works! Is this an easter-egg built into the S60 OS? To be honest we don’t know, but it works and this is the only important thing…

  1. This is an old rumour that’s been passed around lots of forums for a while now. It doesn’t work. Sorry.

  2. no dude! i didnt expect this from u

as @Wez said, it was just a rumour, n its realllllyyy veryy old, it came on the web when ppl(including me) owned 6600s n stuff

it does not work at all

  3. I think it works but it might be a placebo effect…

  4. I have just tried it out, and it seems to have worked for me.

  5. [...] and it works for me, its a crazy method, but thus far, it has speeded up my n95 no end. No joke.! SymbianWorld Blog Archive How to: Speed up your S60 device! I think all of you S60-users out there know that devices with this Symbian S60 OS can be very [...]

  6. fakee :@

  7. Many people say it’s just a placebo effect, I don’t know to be honest. On the one side it’s just unbelivable but on the other side me and other people have the impression that it works. You have to decide it by yourself. Maybe I’ll make a test later - I’ve just resetted my N95 and so I can test it.

  8. I have tested it along side my other N95, and its certainly quicker. Don’t ask me how, but it certainly is.

  9. worked! can’t believe it. hehe thanks!

  10. Just tried it on another N95, and its worked again.! I timed the device before, and timed it again afterwards. opening the Apps folder before this trick was applied took 1.3 seconds to open (i have a lot of apps), but after I applied the trick, it opened instantly.

This is quite an old trick, as I have found mention of the very same on another forums, posted back in 2005, and there was mention that its original source was from Nokia in the Philippines.

  12. I don’t care if its old or new, it works for me, even if it only is in my head, it still appears to work really good.

  13. Hmmm, seems to be a little faster but I can’t tell really. It may indeed be just a placebo effect. More importantly though, what theme is that and where can I get one?

  14. I cant believe it or understand how, but this really does seem to work, i was very skeptical but just tried this and timed the gallery, maps app and sat nav and its all a lot lot faster,….thanks

  15. err i accidentally put the Qoukie priority as high and it still worked…

  16. To anyone who’s tried it and found it faster - did you actually restart your phone after trying this “hack”?
Or was your phone faster just because everything (like the main menu) has been cached while you were tinkering? :)

  17. @Furie: The theme is called “BlackWhite”, it is from Babinokia. You can download it here: http://www.babinokia.com/2008/05/25/colors-white/

  18. didn’t restart no, but removed the 2 items from the to do list and it then went back to it being slower again. Re did the tip and it was faster again.

  19. Cheers Chris. I’ve been looking for a simple monochrome theme for a while now, but always find something that’s out of place.

@VZsolt - I restarted mine afterwards. I figured something like this would need a restart to take effect. It definitely starts faster after doing it, but still not sure about menus running faster.

  20. I have to say that i didn’t believe and thought that this was like a urban legend. Then i saw replies saying that it actually worked and decided to give it a try.

Believe it or not it works! My folders open much more quickly and the gallery… oh man. I have 12 wallpapers in 1600*1200 resolution and now they show up faster.

  21. Forgot to say. I have an N82 black.

  22. Yeah I forgot to mention images too. While the gallery seems to open at the same speed as always for me, new images “unpixelate” much faster.

  23. Here is the difference.

    My friend’s N80: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjnkckYOsPM
    My N82: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfXuC0WlDzM

You can see the difference in N80. It is faster now, forgot to open the music player in my N82, but i can assure you that now it takes half of the time until i can move inside folders.

  24. On the N80 it works!
    For the E71 ineffective.

  25. I’m sorry but it does not work on 6120…tried just now, same speed…it just a placebo effect

  26. working on N95, before in need lot of time to open music player, now it’s opening in second.
