Another time Tehkseven has been creative and created nice Maemo like theme. It’s available for S60 5th Edition (N97, 5800 XpressMusic) and S60 3rd Edition devices (N96, N85). If you like it go ahead and download it.
Today Nokia andQt released the Beta version of Qt 4.6.0. Qt is a cross-platform application and UI framework. Using Qt, one can write applications once and deploy them across desktop, mobile and embedded operating systems without rewriting the source code. The beta runs on S60 3rd Edition as well as 5th Edition devices. I’ve installed it on my Nokia N97 and it looks really impressive. The focus of this release has been to stabilize the Symbian port, as well as adding a backend for the Phonon multimedia library enabling simple audio and video playback. The “Colossus” beta-release contains QtCore, QtTest, QtGui, QtNetwork, QtScript, QtSvg, QtWebKit, QtXML and Phonon as well as documentation and examples and demo.
To download Colossus straight to your phone point your phone’s browser to qt.nokia.com/phonedemo. For best performance we recommend to install in Phone memory.
Spb Software just released an application called Spq TV. Spb TV is a highly usable IP-TV solution, optimized to run on S60 devices such as the 5800 XpressMusic,E63 , N95 and more. Spb TV provides users with lots of channels in multiple languages with easy-to-use features and settings. This software costs $14.95 but is also available as a trial version offering you a limited amount of channels. The full version offers more than 100 TV channels around the world. The spectrum of language and TV channels is really big. From English, German, Russian, Spanish to sport, news, whether, cartoon, religion it almost offers everything. The channels run smoothly on WiFI and 3G connection. However, if you don’t have a data plan you shouldn’t use this application via 3G or EDGE as this charge your phone bill excessively
Now Nokia’s Mail for Exchange has been updated to v.2.0.158. Allegedly it is available for almost all Nokia phones. However, the official homepage doesn’t show the installation file when choosing for example the 5800, E61i or the N82. Nonetheless I think version 2.9 will work on these phones in due course. So far it is only available for the Nokia E51, E63, E66, E71, N73 and N95 8GB. Head over to download MfE 2.9 and to get further information.
Sports Tracker, which won the Best Mobile Internet Service, has just received an update to v2.05. This version offers better touch support for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, support for the Polar heart rate monitor, minor bug fixes and the usual stability. To download the new version just open the application’s options and click on ‘Check for update’.
The Nokia Beta Labs really stand for funny, useful and inoviate applications. Now they introduced Nokia Magnifier. It uses your phone camera as a magnifier to improve the readability of fine prints such as billings or bookpages. Nokia Magnifier has a built in stabilizer to reduce the effects of a shaky hand and negative filter enabling users to switch from light to dark backgrounds improving readability. By using the existing camera technology, users can also snap a picture of the enhanced image for later reference. Of course this application is free for download. However, it doesn’t work on the new S60 Feature Pack 2 devices devices but only on devices like the N95, N82 or the E90.
I am a user of Nokia mobile-phones for several years by now. Actually I had many problems with the build-quality and other issues of all the phones by Nokia I have used. Unfortunately the time has gone by and not much except the features has changed. So I decided to write a post about all the issues I am „enjoying” with the company Nokia.
As you may know there are many codes which can be entered in the home-screen of your Nokia S60 device, e.g. to see what firmware your device has. Because there are so many of those, and not everyone does even know of them, we decided to write this guide for you.
Some of the following codes can reset your phone or change settings, so please make sure to know what you’re doing with entering a code – there’s a description below every code, read it first! Besides the following codes we also give standard knowledge like how to open the Task-manager or switch the profile in an instance.
Over on Nokia Beta Labs I’ve found one new application and a update of another application. Nokia Image Exchange basically uploads your pictures to its own service in just a couple of seconds. Currently services like Flickr or Ovi aren’t supported. The mobile and web interface are synchronized so you can upload, publish & browse pictures on your mobile. Of course you can decide whether you keep them for your own or show them to the public or just to your friends. Than Enhanced Calculator gets finally an update. This calculator offers you more functions than the pre-installed calculator and is of course for free. Just jump over to download it or to get more information. Most S60 3rd Edition devices should support these two application, however, there are a few issues with some devices but you should give it a try.
The Nokia E90 Communicator received a new firmware. The new firmware is version 300.34.84 and as usually you can download it via the Nokia Software Updater.
[This new firmware doesn't have Blackberry support, if this is important for you, don't upgrade your device!]
The changes are:
Much faster orientation switching (open/close lid etc)
Nokia Maps 2.0 now built-in
Download! application updated (v 3.1.736)
Cosmetic upgrade to Music player
Update for Flash Lite 3 and Flash video
Wi-Fi improvements
