Skype have finally launched an official Skype application for S60 3rd Edition. The limited beta application runs on all S60 3rd Edition devices and can be downloaded here.
Just like the desktop version if you can call your sykpe contacts, write IMs, sent files and much more. It looks and works pretty good. Skype for Symbian works over Wifi or 3G data connection. We recommend having a unlimited data plan when using 3G connection.
Skype for Symbian supports:
- Free Skype-to-Skype calling
- Call phones with Skype credits or subscription
- Receive calls on your Online Number
- Instant Messaging
- Group conversations
- File sending and receiving Read the rest of this entry »

The most anticipated firmware update in Nokia history is due to arrive in the next few days. Firmware Version 2.0 brings not only kinetic scrolling but also more allocated storage and more widgets. In general, a Firmware update brings improvements, bug fixes and new features. However, some users aren’t aware of how to update the Nokia N97 or any other S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 or 5th Edition device. In this article I’ll show the two basic ways to update the firmware. The process is pretty simple. Either you can do it straight from your phone or using your PC.

Today Nokia and Qt released the Beta version of Qt 4.6.0. Qt is a cross-platform application and UI framework. Using Qt, one can write applications once and deploy them across desktop, mobile and embedded operating systems without rewriting the source code. The beta runs on S60 3rd Edition as well as 5th Edition devices. I’ve installed it on my Nokia N97 and it looks really impressive. The focus of this release has been to stabilize the Symbian port, as well as adding a backend for the Phonon multimedia library enabling simple audio and video playback. The “Colossus” beta-release contains QtCore, QtTest, QtGui, QtNetwork, QtScript, QtSvg, QtWebKit, QtXML and Phonon as well as documentation and examples and demo.

To download Colossus straight to your phone point your phone’s browser to qt.nokia.com/phonedemo. For best performance we recommend to install in Phone memory.

Have you been wondering why there are more and more people talking to their phones? Giving their devices orders like: “send SMS to Norman, message hello how are you?” or “open File Manager.” Vlingo Corporation has launched their voice application, Vlingo, which allows user to instantly send a text messages and emails, call contacts, search the Web, create a “note to self” and much more, simply by speaking to your compatible S60 device. The service is available for free but can also be upgraded to a Plus Version. However, I’ll come back to both these versions later on. First I want to explain how to get Vlingo and how it works. The Nokia N85 has been updated to version 30.101. This software release includes improvements in copying contacts from your SIM card, usual small bug fixes and system improvements. As you can tell this is not a big update at all. To get this software through your device, type in *#0000# on the home screen or go to Device Manager. Select Options > Check for updates and follow the on screen prompts. Additionally this software release is available through the Nokia Software Updater.

Do you remember games like Sonic The Hedgehog? More than 10 years ago games by Sega were really popular and I believe they still are. If you would like to play these games on your S60 handset today is your lucky day. I’ve found an emulator which allows you to play .smd and other files. Smd is a rom file for the sega megadrive. This tutorial works on both, S60 3rd and 5th edition handsets. However, as you need keys to control the game the Nokia N97 is the only S60 5th Edition device which you can use. This is indeed a really busy time for both Nokia and us bloggers. In the last days the N96, E71, E66 as well as the E51 received a new firmware update. Now the N86 has been updated to version v11.043. It’s pretty easy updating it. You can use either the OTA (Over The Air) method or download it via the Nokia Software Updater. Like almost all new handset it also features UDP (User Data Preservation), so that all data and information stays on your handset. Along with the N86 also the N85 has been updated to v30.019. This firmware update is also available via the NSU and OTA. Unfortunately, we do not have a changelog but I assume that bugs have been fixed and improved. More over, the overall performance of the N86 has been improved and the gallery is ways more faster. All About Symbian says:
This brings official Ovi Store compatibility, camera tweaks and the usual early firmware bug fixes and improvements.

Barcoo is a service allowing you to scan products in the supermarket to get information about this product. You can scan for example chocolate or any other barcode you find. It gives you information about the product, the best price, reviews, healthy-information, wikipedia-links and much more. The application is available for free and runs on all S60 3rd Edition and 5th Edition devices. Unfortunately, the application is available only in German but you can use it anyways. Head over to download the application. I really like the application how about you?
