How To Use Coordinates In Ovi Maps

Finding destinations using Ovi Maps is very easy now, with the search more precise than ever. There is one slight weakness however, when trying to access a location using coordinates, as the option isn’t so apparent. Now although navigating with coordinates is hardly an everyday scenario, there may be times when you’d like to find or navigate to a location using just the coordinates. So heres a quick guide on how to go about this on your Nokia smartphone. Read the rest of this entry »

DSCF3543Today Nokia shared their plan to offer the Ovi Maps service,voice-guided navigation – both car and pedestrian, free of charge and with no extra costs. Until this announcement, the live navigation was a premium service only. However, this is an offensive challenge indeed. As navigation is becoming a buying factor more and more this announcement, so Nokia, should increase the number of sales. Other than that, the Ovi Maps version has been updated and comes with a bunch of new features and a reworked UI. At the moment there are ten devices supported, more to come in March. If your device is supported go to maps.nokia.com and download it. However, there are many open questions like how Nokia want to get revenue with navigation now or how they want to advertise Ovi Maps in future.

”Why have multiple devices that work that work in only one country or region? Put it all together, make it free, make it global and you almost double the potential size of the mobile navigation market ,” explained Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President, Nokia. “Nokia is the only company with a mobile navigation service for both drivers and pedestrians that works across the world. Unlike the legacy car navigation manufacturers, we don’t make you buy maps for different countries or regions even if you’re only visiting for a few days. We offer both navigation and maps free of charge, with all the high-end functionality and features that people now expect.” Read the rest of this entry »

a04b38f11f5942c5b83772e2d12073dd Round Up Of The Good Things Event In London

As you all know I was in London last week courtesy of WomWorld, attending Nokia’s ‘Secret Event’ of the new Ovi Maps and Good Things. It was an incredible experience and there were nine other bloggers invited from all around the world. It was great to meet them all in person and get to know them a little better. If you’ve been following me over at The Nokia Review you would have seen my recent coverage about the event. I’ve put together my thoughts on the event which was based around the N97 mini and the new version of Ovi Maps. This new version will also feature on the Nokia N97 2.0 Firmware which is due to hit NSU anytime now. So head over and leave some comments on your thoughts. More updates will be up within the next few days so stay tuned.

Primordial Ground Guidance is a fascinating new application developed using the new Ovi SDK with full Maps and guidance support. The app gives you routes and walking directions across terrain where there are no roads or marked footpaths, and it manages to suggest the best route to get from A to B taking into consideration possible shortfalls. Clay Babcock gives us a walk-through of Primordial Ground Guidance app from the Nokia booth show floor at CTIA09. Check out the video after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »

6f07960dad0a47479705884c55129562 Nokia N86 8MP Review Part 2 Software

In Part One of the Nokia N86 8MP Review I focused on the hardware and build quality of the handset. Today I intend to delve deep inside the N86 exploring the software aspect of the device. Just to quickly recap, the Nokia N86 8MP is Nokia’s new flagship camera-phone. The device sports 8GB of built in storage as well as a microSD card slot, and has all the now ’standard’ features including Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS and a Digital Compass. The N86 has a built in FM transmitter too, along with the extraordinary 8 megapixel, Carl Zeiss wide-angle lens, setting itself way above it’s competition. Read the rest of this entry »

icon How to: Calibrate Nokia N97s compass within three secondsThe Nokia N97 has a built in compass to show you which direction you’re heading. This is especially for pedestrian navigation useful as the map automatically rotates. However, you need to calibrate the compass everytime you open Nokia Maps. According to Nokia’s manual you need to rotate the N97 around all axes in a continuous movement. It does not only take long but also looks strange. Now I’ve found a easy and fast way to calibrate the compass within three seconds. Read the rest of this entry »

22.05.2009 by you.

Nokia is more than a mobile phone manufacture. They are offering a hand full of services such as the Nokia Music Store, N-Gage, Nokia Maps, Files on Ovi and a few more. However, the problem of these services is how to market them and how to bring these services to the customers. Who will use the Nokia Music Store if they need to pay first? Therefore Nokia adds vouchers to devices such as the E75.
