Skype have finally launched an official Skype application for S60 3rd Edition. The limited beta application runs on all S60 3rd Edition devices and can be downloaded here.
Just like the desktop version if you can call your sykpe contacts, write IMs, sent files and much more. It looks and works pretty good. Skype for Symbian works over Wifi or 3G data connection. We recommend having a unlimited data plan when using 3G connection.
Do you remember games like Sonic The Hedgehog? More than 10 years ago games by Sega were really popular and I believe they still are. If you would like to play these games on your S60 handset today is your lucky day. I’ve found an emulator which allows you to play .smd and other files. Smd is a rom file for the sega megadrive. This tutorial works on both, S60 3rd and 5th edition handsets. However, as you need keys to control the game the Nokia N97 is the only S60 5th Edition device which you can use. Zeemote recently announced that their Zeemote JS1 Bluetooth Game Controller is compatible with a wider range of devices. The latest release of the Zeekey application is also available and allows the Zeemote JS1 Bluetooth Game Controller to expand upon its current mobile device compatibility, with all Nokia S60 3rd and 5th Edition devices now being supported. The Zeekey application will also enable users to control other applications on the device, including the music player, navigation and web browsing.
Spb Software just released an application called Spq TV. Spb TV is a highly usable IP-TV solution, optimized to run on S60 devices such as the 5800 XpressMusic,E63 , N95 and more. Spb TV provides users with lots of channels in multiple languages with easy-to-use features and settings. This software costs $14.95 but is also available as a trial version offering you a limited amount of channels. The full version offers more than 100 TV channels around the world. The spectrum of language and TV channels is really big. From English, German, Russian, Spanish to sport, news, whether, cartoon, religion it almost offers everything.The channels run smoothly on WiFI and 3G connection. However, if you don’t have a data plan you shouldn’t use this application via 3G or EDGE as this charge your phone bill excessively

The year is almost over, maybe you’re located in New Zealand where the year has already turned into 2009. However, I just wanted to recap the year 2008 and make my top 4. The best 4 devices which were available in stores – so we don’t mention the N97. I don’t rank my top four as this is really difficult because every device has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, I also want to mention that this year wasn’t that special. We haven’t seen that much and special devices which blow me and Christian away. Anyway I really look forward seeing what the manufactures will do in 2009. With the new players like the Symbian Foundation, Apple, Google and also Nokia, Samsung and so on we can really expect a lot.
