Shot02 Sony Ericsson Vivaz and Satio receive equalizer application The official Sony Ericsson Blog brought us news that there is finally a way to enable a equalizer on the Sony Ericsson Vivaz and the Satio.

For most markets there is now an free application called “Equalizer” available on PlayNow in the music category under applications. This equalizer will give you the following different options: Off, Classical, Jazz, Dance, Party, Pop, Rock, Spoken Word, Loudness, Mega Bass and Treble Boost.

There are two important notes though: First of all this application needs the latest update to work on Satio and also since it’s a separate application it needs to be started separately when you want to start using it i.e. it’s not included under options in e.g. the music player. When an equalizer setting has been chosen it should stay even if the application is closed or the phone rebooted.

Unfortunately, this application is not deeply integrated into the music player but a standalone application.

Stuff Magazine Review The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro

The guys over at Stuff Magazine have got their hands on the Sony Ericsson Vivas and Vivas Pro. The Vivaz Pro is the QWERTY keyboard version of the Vivaz and it still retains all the features of its sibling, barring a few key differences. The Vivas has an 8.1MP camera whereas the Vivaz Pro packs in 5.1MPs and therefore a smaller sensor to make way for it’s slide out keyboard. The Vivaz Pro is also 2mm thicker, but the best part however, is they both pack 720p HD video mode, putting it up against the likes of Samsung’s i8910 HD. Julian Whitehorn gives a quick overview of the Vivas Pro in his hands-on demo after the break. Read the rest of this entry »

Snowboard Hero

Snowboard Hero is, as the name already hints, a snowboard game with severl game-modes. You can choose between speedrun, freestyle and a race. Basically, it is supposed to run on S60 3rd Edition devices only, however, it’s also possible to run it on touch-enabled devices. In this case you would have a onscreen-keyboard to control the game. If you own a Nokia N97 or a N97 Mini you can disable the onscreen-keyboard by going  to settings. Then open the App Manager,go to installed apps and find the game. Finally go to options, suite settings, on-screen keyboard and than change to OFF.

Download the game to your Nokia N96, Sony Ericsson Satio or your Samsung Omnia I8910 HD and enjoy the game.

Today Gartner published their figures for the past year. In total, the worldwide mobile phone sales to end users totalled 1.211 billion units in 2009, a 0.9 per cent decline from 2008. This is, if you bear in mind the global recession, a decent result.

The fourth quarter of 2009 ended quite positive with a increase of 8.3 percent. In 2009, smartphone sales reached 172.4 million units, a 23.8 per cent increase from 2008. Athough Symbian and Nokia are still market leader, they lost approx two (Nokia) and five per cet compared to the previous year. Also Sony Ericsson’s market share decreased two per cent.

4370024659 53d3bd008c Hands On with the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro

Sony Ericsson was the only manufacturer that announced a new Symbian based handset during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The new Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro is an advanced version of the Vivaz, which was announced just a week prior to MWC. Apparently there are just two main differences between these two Symbian devices - a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and the downscaled 5-megapixel camera. Other than that these two devices are completely identical. Read the rest of this entry »

S60 5th Edition Games: Raging Thunder, Wave Blaze & Armageddon Squadron in 3D and for freeGood 3D games for the S60 5th Edition platform are rather rare. However, Polarbits is offering  three high quality 3D games: Raging Thunder (car racing game), Wave Blazer (power boat racing) and Armageddon Squadron (arcade flight simulator / shooter). Despite the good quality those games are free of charge. There are several gaming modes supported. A multiplayer-mode is also included. What we really like is the game-control. Using the accelerometer API you can control your boat, aircraft or car easly. Take a look at our video to see how the games work. These games work on all S60 5th Edition devices such as the X6, N97 or the Satio.
