For NAM variants, you will be updated to v10.0.024 and same to other EURO and CHINA product codes. The C6 is running with Symbian^1 or S60v5 software plus with 5MP camera and a 3.2″ resistive touch screen. With NSU (nokia software updater) or through the phone’s FOTA (firmware over the air) you can download the updates. And I suggest to backup first before going to update or just briefly follow the instructions in NSU.

Together with Maiku Ishida, Product Manager of SE, she will finally unveil the story on how did they made the Vivaz together with their engineers and designers, and the rest is history. The Vivaz is the 8MP camera from Sony Ericsson that is capable of shooting HD videos. Also running in Symbian S60 5th edition (S60v5 or Symbian^1), with 3.2″ resistive touch screen, Wi-Fi, 720MHz cpu with a dedicated GPU. And in fact there’s a pro version of Vivaz.

It is official, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro is now being shipped to the first regions and should be available in the stores near you very soon.

I’m happy to say that we have now started to ship out Vivaz pro to selected markets around the world. There might be slight differences in when it will be available for your market, so I advice you to check with your local operators and retailers for more detailed information.

In case you aren’t aware of the Vivaz Pro: The Vivaz Pro comes equipped with a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, a 3,2 inch-touchscreen and a full slide-out QWERTY-keyboard. On top of that, the Vivaz Pro supports HD video recording (720p) and continuous focus which is second to none. Unfortunately, it still runs on S60 5th Edition (Symbian^1) instead of the fresh Symbian^3. More information, pictures and videos on the Vivaz Pro can be found here. Sony Ericsson’s estimated retail price for this baby is 499€ .

Sportstracker is back – in a new and revised version. SportsTracker is a GPS-based application that kees track of everything from calories burned while running to your average cycling speed over altitude. This freeware application turns your smartphone a full-featured GPS sports computer. On your handset you get maps, time and distance calculators, step count, and even heart rate when you use a compatible HR belt. All data is stored in a diary so you can chart your progress, find your strengths and weaknesses, and share with others. In the future you will be able to upload your tacks to the online-service as well. Sportstracker is available for the Nokia 5800, N97, N97 mini, X6, 5230, 5235 as well as for the 5530 and can be downloaded in the Ovi Store. Hence only S60 5th Edition (Symbian^1) devices are supported,no non-touch devices yet.
Nonetheless, SportsTracker is definitely a must have application, whether you are a professional runner or just eager to know the distance from your home to your work place.

One of which is the ”remote phone locking” function. This function allows to lock your S60 device like the Nokia N97 via a text message from everywhere.

If, for example, somebody had stolen your precious Nokia N97 with really important and private data you can simply write a text message to your phone number and immediately your N97 is locked. However, first you need to activate this function. Therefore go into the menu and than choose ‘settings‘, ‘phone‘, ‘Phone mgmt‘, ‘Security settings‘, ‘Phone and Sim card‘ and finally ‘Remote phone locking‘. Once you enable it you have to define a message like e.g. ”nokian97” and afterwards verify it again. Now you have activated this function.

Will this message be sent to your Nokia N97 it will automatically lock itself and can only be unlocked with the lock code which is ”12345” out of the box. However, we do recommend to change it to guarantee that only you know the code. Again, we want to stress that this function is also supported by all other S60 devices such as the 5800 Xpress Music, E72 or the N96.

Watch this video to see how to set it up and how good it works:
Based on the revolutionary eyeCan technology, you can control the UI by simply hovering your hand over your device. A simple hand gesture can silent an incoming call, navigate between GPS menus, activate the MP3 player and more. With Symbian Moove, simply place your hand over the phone to get the music started. Then you can place your hand over the phone again to pause, or slide your hand above the phone to skip to the next song. Check out the video demo of the app in action after the break.

Nokia Bots works on the Nokia N97 and the N97 Mini only and is available for download here.

Currently, four Bots are included:

Profile Bot

Do you ever forget to silence the phone for meetings? Or when the meeting ends, forget to switch back to normal profile, and miss calls? Profile Bot is here to help. Profile changes are suggested on your homescreen: confirm automated profile changes for each meeting with a single click, or let them be fully automated for you.

Alarm Bot

Setting up a wake-up alarm and silent profile for night time has never been easier! Alarm Bot learns at what time you use to wake up, and suggests alarms and profile changes on your homescreen nightly. Create a new alarm and automate night profile with a single click, and never again forget phone to silent profile in the morning.

Shortcut Bot

New apps from Ovi store make the phone more useful and fun. With the help of Shortcut Bot, you get quick access to your most frequently used apps straight from your homescreen without configuration hassles: your preferences are learned in the background, and shortcuts automatically updated.

Battery Bot

Battery Bot observes your battery status. In case the battery is likely to drain while you sleep, it reminds you in advance to connect the charger. Otherwise you might wake up too early because of “battery low” alerts, or too late if it drains before wake-up alarm.

The Vivas has an 8.1MP camera whereas the Vivaz Pro packs in 5.1MPs and therefore a smaller sensor to make way for it’s slide out keyboard. The Vivaz Pro is also 2mm thicker, but the best part however, is they both pack 720p HD video mode, putting it up against the likes of Samsung’s i8910 HD. Julian Whitehorn gives a quick overview of the Vivas Pro in his hands-on demo after the break.

Sony Ericsson was the only manufacturer that announced a new Symbian based handset during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The new Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro is an advanced version of the Vivaz, which was announced just a week prior to MWC. Apparently there are just two main differences between these two Symbian devices - a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and the downscaled 5-megapixel camera. Other than that these two devices are completely identical.

The main highlight of the Vivaz Pro is the 720p HD video-recording capabilities. Of course, this is nothing new since the Samsung I8910 HD features it already. However, there is even more about the video recording other than just the HD quality. When compared to the other smartphones, the focus of the camera on the Vivas Pro constantly adapts. Basically what this means is that everything you record is extremely sharp, whether it be a text in front of the lens or the house a couple of meters away. Even some standalone cameras with video recording functionalities don’t support this.

Although the Vivas Pro’s five-megapixel camera makes it a great camera and video recoding device, there is only a single LED flash on the back. The Satio for instance has a LED and Xenon flash which improves the image quality drastically. A Xenon flash on the Vivaz Pro would’ve made it a real winner.

On the right hand side of the device you will not only find a dedicated camera key but also a dedicated video recording key, so that you can jump straight to your desired mode without the need to switch from camera to video mode or vice versa.

The Vivaz is based on Symbian S60 5th Edition, with some Sony Ericsson based functions and customizations. One of which is the homescreen with five different panels which you can personalize as you wish.

As social media is becoming more and more significant, Sony Ericsson preloaded the Vivaz Pro with a Facebook and Twitter application. In combination with the full slide out QWERTY keyboard, using Facebook and Twitter on the Vivas Pro is a very enjoyable experience. The keyboard has four rows with relatively large keys. Finding the pressure point is easy and one can get used to the keyboard fast. On the right hand side you will find the four arrow keys as well as the enter and backspace buttons.

In terms of the size the Vivaz Pro measures in at 109 x 52 x 15 mm, not too big, and slightly smaller than the Nokia N97. It is built mainly out of plastic and there are no highlights in order to make it look and feel more desirable.

The Vivaz Pro does not support kinetic scrolling in the menu or in lists. We don’t have any information whether this will be added in future updates but thus far there is no sign of kinetic scrolling.

We must note that Sony Ericsson have finally decided to use a proper 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB port. This has always been a major hassle and a major reason to not buy a Sony Ericsson. Leaving the proprietary jack behind and replacing it with the current standard is a great step forward. The Sony Ericsson Vivas Pro is expected to be released in Q2 2010 with a price tag of 490€.

Today, at Sony Ericsson’s press conference, just one day prior the Mobile World Congress 2010 kicks off, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro has been announced. In it’s roots it’s pretty much the same as the Vivaz, that have been announced a week ago, but with two differences – a full qwerty-keyboard and a 5 megapixel camera instead of 8. Running on S60 5th Edition it comes equipped with a 3.2-inch touch-screen, WiFi, GPS and a five megapixel camera. On top of that, the Vivaz Pro records HD videos and comes, as already highlighted, with a full slide out qwerty-keyboard. The Vivaz Pro will b e available in Q2 of this year

February 14, 2010 – Barcelona – Sony Ericsson Vivaz™ pro, announced today, adds a QWERTY keyboard to the touch screen offering, delivering a user experience optimised for messaging and entertainment. The full QWERTY keyboard allows consumers to communicate quickly and efficiently via email, SMS or social networking updates.

Just like flagship phone Sony Ericsson Vivaz™, announced in January, Sony Ericsson Vivaz™ pro allows consumers to produce and broadcast their best experiences in HD video. The open platform also allows users to personalise their entertainment experience by downloading great applications through PlayNow™ and the Symbian Developer Community.

“Having announced Sony Ericsson Vivaz™ in January we are now adding a sister phone that includes a QWERTY keyboard along with the touch screen for a superior messaging and entertainment experience,” said Daniel Sandblom Marketing Business Manager, Sony Ericsson. “Sony Ericsson Vivaz™ pro meets the increased consumer demand for QWERTY devices without compromising on any entertainment features.”

Sony Ericsson Vivaz™ pro features the new design philosophy ’human curvature’, which will become a consistent feature of the Sony Ericsson portfolio going forward. Designed to mirror the shape of the human body, and at the same time delivering a precise and compelling way of interacting with the phone, Sony Ericsson Vivaz™ pro is instantly recognisable.

The Samsung i8910 Omnia HD has received a new firmware update taking it up to JB1. The new firmware brings many long awaited improvements include kinetic scrolling, web enhancements, UI optimizations to increase responsiveness and bug fixes. The Samsung i8910 Omnia HD does not sport any form of UDP as per Nokia, therefore we strongly suggest you back up all your data and memory.

Changelog:

Kinetic scrolling now in more parts of the UI (but still not in the main Applications menu)

The Next Gen (NG) version of Web: (faster, automatic switching to full-screen)

Camera capture and video recording settings have been improved

Bug fixes and optimizations throughout the UI

This is what Steve Litchfield of AAS made of the new update:

Samsung has made worse the already critical lack of flash memory on disk C: By default, you now only get 17MB free after the update/reset. This is utterly ridiculous and is a huge impediment to power users while causing potential chaos for inexperienced users. If I remember rightly, the previous firmware allowed the user some 30MB or so free, so things just got dramatically worse. Quite understandably, Symbian OS starts to complain if it’s got less than 10MB of workspace free for temporary files (e.g. web cache) – starting with 17MB free is just Stupid with a capital ‘S’. And galling, in view of the fact that skilled hackers elsewhere in the world have managed to cook up i8910 HD firmwares (don’t ask how) which have up to 100MB free. Samsung, you dropped the ball here.

However, Polarbits is offering three high quality 3D games: Raging Thunder (car racing game), Wave Blazer (power boat racing) and Armageddon Squadron (arcade flight simulator / shooter). Despite the good quality those games are free of charge. There are several gaming modes supported. A multiplayer-mode is also included. What we really like is the game-control. Using the accelerometer API you can control your boat, aircraft or car easly. Take a look at our video to see how the games work. These games work on all S60 5th Edition devices such as the X6, N97 or the Satio.
